A LEGACY OF GENERATIONS
The Imperial Group was founded by Mr. Abdul Ghani Khan (Late) in 1931 when he started the Imperial Electric Company. After a few years of laying the foundations for the company he passed on the controls to his sons, Mr. Abdul Rehman (Late) and Mr. Atta ur Rehman (Late) in early 1940s. Both brothers worked diligently in building up the Imperial Group. In mid-50’s, the brothers partnered up with, Mr. Sheikh Abdul Mannan (Late) and Mr. Shafiq Ahmed Siddiqui (Late), further expanding the group by launching into new endeavours, both public and private.
Throughout its history, the Imperial group has been a part of designing and building Pakistan’s electrical and civil infrastructure. The first high-voltage transmission line, Warsak-Kharian (132KV) was awarded and completed by the construction division of IEC (now ICC Pvt. Ltd) led by Mr. Shafiq Ahmed Siddiqui (Late). A large number of important buildings such as the Civil Secretariat, the first government office block in Islamabad, were built by another group company, Interhom (now disinvested).
The group has successfully completed several transmission lines, power plants, grid-stations & substations, thermal plants, ceramic insulators, long rod switches, switchgear, diesel generators, airfield lighting, instrument landing and aircraft stand equipment installation projects.
Over its long and illustrious life, The Imperial Electric Company, has obtained the distribution rights of renowned companies such as ALCOA, Asea (now known as ABB), NGK, Deutz, Copperweld, Yotai Refractories and Thorn Lighting, to name a few. IEC now represents Chint, Schneider Electric, ADB SAFEGATE, ITW GSE, JBT AeroTech, Leoni, Thales, and Tungsram Lighting (previously GE Lighting). To date, the 5th Generation of the family has carried on the legacy and thrives to evolve the group with the latest innovations and technologies.
EMCO Industries Ltd
Soon after the creation of Pakistan, the needs for import substitution was felt and in 1951, a small manufacturing unit for electrical goods was established in the basement of the offices of The Imperial Electric Company to produce electrical accessories. With single minded initiative and efforts of Mr. Ata-ur-Rehman (late), the former Managing Director of the Company, the facilities were continuously upgraded, and a full-fledged facility was established in Lahore, Pakistan by 1954 under the same name of Electrical Equipment Manufacturing Co. Ltd. (EMCO). The first comprehensive Insulator Manufacturing Plant was in operation with the active participation, know-how and machinery coming from Japan and France.
